Moodlights From Photographs
One of my clients brought me a photograph of his daughter and a grizzly bear, and wondered if I could sandblast that picture on a piece of glass. I have always thought that photographs are a totally different thing than sandblasted glass. They change too much when they are copied by hand and sandblasted. But I said I would try, and the result came out better than I had expected! He was happy with it and brought me another photograph to try. One with his son posing with a big fish he had caught.
I came to feel this was a different category of Moodlight. I made a Moodlight from one of my own photographs which was taken in an old building under renovation on a sunny day. I still get that feeling of the sunny day when I look at the Moodlight. The Moodlight version doesn’t capture the likeness of the man in the photograph the same way, but it captures a feel of the moment from that sunny day.
I am thinking that other people may have photographs that bring up memories of special moments which they might like to have made into a Moodlight. If you are one of those people, please email me your photograph. I will make a sketch from it and send it back to you, and if it does catch the feeling of the picture, we can negotiate putting it on glass. Like all my work, the cost depends on the intricacy of the project. A small Moodlight from a photograph will cost $300 or more. The price includes the sandblasted glass, plus the handmade base with LED light in it, as well as an adapter and a remote control.
