The Coastal Community Credit Union
I was commissioned to do this project for the Credit Union on Labieux Road in Nanaimo when the building was constructed. They wanted the wall around the manager’s office to represent the community that supports the credit union - people. I searched through cartoons and children’s books to find people in various everyday situations and distributed them across the glass panels, occasionally separating them by a tree I found in a book with medieval designs. It was my first large job. They did not request that the walls provide privacy for the manager. As a matter of fact it was considered to be an advantage that she could overlook the main customer area from inside her office.
This job opened the opportunity for me to do a couple of other jobs. One for a family counselling office in Washington State and one for a donor wall at the Nanaimo General Hospital.
